A new scoreboard was installed at Greenwich High School’s Cardinal stadium on Thursday.

According to Greenwich schools communication director Kim Eves, the gift of the scoreboard was from the Greenwich Athletic Foundation and was approved by the Board of Education at their meeting on June 14.

On June 14, the agenda item, submitted by then GHS headmaster Chris Winters and Greenwich Schools COO Lorianne O’Donnell, explained that the gift would be in the amount of $115,400, and that the package would consist of components designed and manufactured by Fair-Play a Translux company, and would include all structural engineering, contract permitting and installation. The package includes a custom LED base scoreboard, fair play game clock, Sony video camera system and Greenwich rear illuminated logo.

In a matter of weeks Greenwich Schools will resume session and a new set of bell times will be implemented.  Greenwich High School will start an hour later.

While the change of start times reflects the worthy goal of teens getting adequate sleep per recommendations of American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the Center for Disease Control, it will also mean later dismissal, and therefore fewer hours of daylight for outdoor sports practices and games.

The Greenwich Athletic Foundation, Inc. (GAF) announced this week that on the RTM approved their gift of a new audio system for Dorothy Hamill Rink.

The gift is the first from the newly formed Greenwich Athletic Foundation, whose goal is to address the town’s deteriorating athletic facilities through public-private collaboration.

GREENWICH — Three months ago, the Greenwich Athletic Foundationwas born from the spirit of giving — and a hearty dose of inter-town competitiveness.
